985,098. Hydraulic brakes; piston packing. H. TEVES, E. A. TEVES, and M. TAUSEND, [trading as ALFRED TEVES MASCHINENUND ARMATURENFABRIK KOMM.-GES.]. Jan. 2, 1962 [March 2, 1961], No. 127/62. Headings F2F and F2T. A master cylinder for hydraulic braking systems includes a resilient, apertured sealing disc 9 on the end face of the master cylinder piston 5, the end face 8 communicating with an annular chamber 4 in the piston body through apertures 7, the sealing disc 9 being formed with a V-shaped sealing edge 16 and with flow passages 17, another disc 18 being introduced between the sealing disc and the end face of the piston for covering the apertures in the sealing disc. When the piston undergoes its working stroke the axial bores 7, 17 are closed by the disc 18 and the sealing disc passes the equalizing passage 13 between the reservoir 2 and the working chamber 14 of the master cylinder. On release movement the outer part of the sealing disc 9 is disengaged from the piston end face 8 by the friction between the sealing edge 16 and the cylinder wall without interfering with the sealing action in the cylinder bore. A communication is then made through the axial passages 7, 17 between the reservoir 2 and the working chamber 14 such that no vacuum is produced during rapid return of the piston.
