Abstract

Materials consisting wholly or partly of cellulose are impregnated with an aqueous solution containing a dyestuff which contains one or more isothioranium salt groups attached to a carbon atom of the aromatic dye nucleus through a methylene linkage, a crease-proofing agent and an acid, storing the material for a short period of time and thereafter rapidly neutralizing the acid in the material with an aqueous alkaline solution. The specified acids are hydrochloric, sulphuric, nitric, phosphoric, trichloracetic and oxalic acids. A number of known acid-catalysed crease-proofing agents are specified. The impregnated material is preferably stored at 25 DEG C. for 1-3 hours and thereafter neutralized with a solution of an alkali metal hydroxide, carbonate or bicarbonate, an alkaline earth hydroxide or ammonia at temperatures of 15-100 DEG C.
