Abstract

984,962. Belt-feed automatic firearms. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO. Ltd. July 6, 1961 [April 6, 1960], No. 12118/60. Heading F3C. Feed mechanism for a cartridge belt comprise a rocker 6, Fig. 4, pivoted on a pin 7 extending parallel to the barrel, the path of the belt 4 being approximately tangential to the arc of swing of the operative end of the arm 11 of the rocket, which end carries a feed pawl 21 spring-urged towards the path of the belt. The other arm 12 of the rocker 6 is formed with a spigot 13, Fig. 2, on which is rotatably mounted an annular roller 14 around which is freely fitted a second annular roller 15, Fig. 4, adapted to slide in a transverse slot on the body of the firearm. The firearm is gas-operated and an extension 3 of the piston is formed with a cam 19 which engages the roller 15 on rearward movement of the piston so that the rocker arm 12 is moved outwardly against the action of a spring 20, and the arm 11 is moved inwardly to feed the belt.
