In an axial piston motor or pump having a revolving cylinder block 2 engaging a stationary, ported valve plate 5 in a liquid-filled housing, recesses 16, Fig. 2, in the cylinder block face are partially exposed to valve plate ports 6 during rotation, and recesses 17 in the valve plate are partially exposed to recesses 16 during rotation, so that the whole of the bearing surfaces are wetted at least once per revolution.
