Abstract
984,480. Railway buffers. P. B. DAVIS. Nov. 22, 1963 [Dec. 31, 1962], No. 49073/62. Heading B7L. A buffer comprises two pairs of slide rails 18 for mounting the buffer on running rails 20; bracing struts 16 connected by gusset plates 24 to rails 18, carry a plate 14 and three lengths of rail 12 forming buffer head 10. Cross bracings Fig. 2, not shown, increase the rigidity of the buffer and carry a ring by which the buffer is pulled back to a starting position after use. The slide rails 18, formed from old rails, as are struts 16 and the cross bracings, are interconnected by bolts 22 serving to adjust the grip of rails 18 on rails 20 and to support the buffer weight on rails 20. Slide blocks may be provided on bolts 22 to engage rails 20 to distribute the weight of the buffer.
