Abstract
984,266. Windscreen wipers. J. E. LINDBERG. May 9, 1961 [July 20, 1960], No. 25360/60. Heading A4F. [Also in Divisions F1, G1 and H2] Windscreen wipers are operated by double-ended piston 51 which is contained in cylinders 60, 61 and sealed thereto by flexible, impervious diaphragms 55, 56. The cylinders contain metal hydrides 62, 63 of the type that outgas upon heating and ingas upon cooling which hydrides have embedded therein electric heating filaments 64, 65. The wiping motion is initiated by depressing switch 90 which causes current to flow through filament 64 which heats hydride 62 causing it to outgas and move piston 51 to the right thus compressing the gas in cylinder 61. When the pressure is sufficiently high in cylinder 61, pressure switch 86 is activated by member 87 which causes switch arm 98 to close and switch arm 92 to open, thus filament 64 begins to cools and filament 65 heats up causing hydride 63 to outgas and move piston 51 to the left when the cycle is repeated upon the activation of pressure member 85 similar to above. The cycle continues after switch 90 is released. Specification 961,146 is referred to.
