Abstract

984,137. Ignition systems. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. Oct. 2, 1962 [Oct. 6, 1961], No. 35981/61. Heading FIB. Spark ignition apparatus comprises in combination first and second terminals 3, 4 which in use are connected to a source of direct or rectified alternating current, an ignition coil having a secondary winding 6 which in use is connected to the sparking plugs of an engine in turn and a primary winding 7 one end of which is connected to the first terminal 3 and a semi-conductor controlled rectifier having its anode and cathode connected between the other end of the primary winding and the second terminal 4, the arrangement being such that when in use a suitable signal is applied to the gate terminal of the controlled rectifier to render it conductive a high voltage will be developed in the secondary winding, whereafter the back e.m.f. developed in the primary winding will serve to cut-off the controlled rectifier. Suitable means for applying pulses to the gate are described in Specification 926,523 referred to.
