A ladder having non-metallic stiles 10 comprises rungs 12 held against rotation by rods 22, 23 of metal, plastics, e.g. resin-bonded glass fibre or wood in longitudinal grooves in the stiles. A rod may pass through the ends of all the rungs in one stile or each end may have a separate rod. The ladder shown has wooden stiles and rungs of aluminium tube.
