Abstract

1362021 Step-ladders F RUSCHITZKA 2 July 1971 [4 July 1970] 31203/71 Heading E1S A step-ladder comprises hollow stiles 1 and metal steps 4, each step being open at its ends and comprising a tread portion 6 with longitudinal side portions 4a angled downwardly and inwardly and then angled (4b) either upwardly (Fig. 5) or downwardly (Fig. 2) to lie parallel to the stiles 1, the portions 4b bearing against and being connected, e.g. by rivets 8, to the front and rear faces of the stiles, the tread portion 6 being recessed at its ends at 7 to accommodate the stiles. The free edges of the parallel portions may be bent inwardly (4d, 10), and in the case of upwardly extending parallel portions 4b such flanges 4d may support the tread portion 6. The side faces of the stiles are preferably convex.
