Abstract

983,172. Feeding cups for invalids. E. BARON, and S. C. LEVY. April 16, 1963 [Sept. 18, 1962], No. 35407/62. Heading A4A. [Also in Division A5] A self-feeding device for invalids comprises a container 5 of glass, porcelain or metal and a tube 12 extending through a resilient lung 14 which is an interference fit in an aperture 11 in the body wall 6 so that the inlet end of the tube opens near the base of the container, the outlet end of the tube having a fitting 16 provided with a mouthpiece 18, 19 and a turncock 17 by which the rate at which liquid or semi-liquid food can be sucked is regulated. The tube may be wholly or partly of flexible plastic and may pass through an aperture in a lid 7 or be otherwise secured to the container. A handle 9 connects the wall 6 to a flange 8 within which the tube is wound for storage after detachment for cleaning.
