A liquid fodder suction apparatus for animals adapted to be inserted in the wall 2 of a container comprises a teat 5 of resilient material carried by a connecting piece 4 through which there is a duct 8 in which is located a one way valve 9 comprising a ball 9a and a manually operable metering valve 19 comprising a tapered screw-threaded spindle 21 which engages a valve seat formed by a tapered portion 196 of the duct 8. The connecting piece 4 is sealed to the container wall 2 by a sealing ring 11 and the apparatus is assembled by means of a lock nut 12.
