982,973. Forage-harvesters. W. G. BRENNER. July 26, 1963 [July 31, 1962], No. 29822/63. Heading A1F. [Also in Divisions A4 and B8] A forage-harvester mounted on hitchlinks 6, 7, behind a tractor comprises a cutting cylinder 9 with its axis extending longitudinally and within the track of the tractor, a ledger-blade 12 and delivery means 13, 14 associated with the cutting cylinder, an outrigger 3 extending laterally of the cutting cylinder and comprising a pick-up device 16 and transverse conveyer 15, the outrigger being upwardly pivotable about an axis 31 on the harvester, and a device 20 for compressing the crop prior to its being fed to the cutting cylinder. Feeding of crop on to the endless conveyer 15 is assisted by an auger 17 above the pick-up cylinder 16. The compressing device comprises rollers 20, 20<SP>1</SP> one of which is floatingly mounted on spring-loaded pivoted levers 21 (Fig. 4). To enable the thickness of the walls of the cutter-housing 2 to be reduced, heavy plates 22 are provided to stiffen it at places of maximum stress. The crop is delivered into a selfdischarging truck 4, through the spout 14, a telescopic drive 25 being provided from the cutting cylinder 9 to the discharge conveyer of the truck.
