A self-propelled, easily steered combine harvester, Fig. 1, comprises a chassis 1 carried on driven front wheels 2, 3 and rear steerable wheels 33, an engine 46, a thrashing cylinder 98 with an underlying concave, a transverse straw rack 99, cleaning mechanism, a header 114, a grain bin 79 mounted on the chassis directly above the engine, helical conveyers 81 and 82 for unloading grain from the bin, an operator's station 55 located above the wheel 2 and selectively engageable and disengageable power transmitting devices connected in driving relationship with the engine to control the operation of the header, the thrashing, separating and cleaning mechanism and the helical conveyers. The header is pivoted about a horizontal axis 116 and comprises a reel 128, cutting mechanism 127, a helical conveyer with left and right hand flights 133 and 132, and a raddle conveyer 120 which feeds cut crops to the thrashing mechanism. The header may be raised or lowered by a hydraulic ram. The chassis is disposed generally symmetrically about a longitudinal axis A-A, Figs. 3 and 6, and the other parts are similarly disposed about a vertical plane containing this axis and passing substantially mid-way between the wheels 33. The longitudinal centre lines of the engine and the grain bin lie substantially in this plane. The combine harvester's centre of gravity X lies close to the said plane and is closer to it when the grain bin is full than when the bin is empty. The sides of the chassis have longitudinal parts 7 and 8 and converging rear parts 11 and 12. A longitudinal helical conveyer carries cleaned grain into an elevator 109 feeding the grain bin. The discharge end of the straw rack is provided with strawspreading mechanism 101.
