982,944. Sterilizing apparatus. AMERICAN STERILIZER CO. May 18, 1961 [June 7, 1960], No. 48772/63. Divided out of 982,943. Heading A2D. .A heat sterilizing device comprises an autoclave for receiving the articles to be sterilized, an inlet to the autoclave connected to a source of steam or other hot vapour and a vapour and condensate outlet, a pressure tank connected to the vapour inlet and to the outlet, a pump in one of the connections for pumping a cooling liquid in the pressure tank and a tubular coil in the pressure tank, which coil is connected before the cooling step and on completion of the sterilizing for heating of the cooling liquid in the pressure tank to the inlet or the outlet of the autoclave, and, for the purpose of cooling and after opening the connections to the autoclave, the cooling liquid through the autoclave and the pressure tank for general cooling of the cooling medium, to a source of a cooling agent. The apparatus of Fig. 2, for sterilizing sealed, filled bottles 2, comprises a vessel 1 having an inlet 4 for vapour from a supply 26 and an outlet 6 for the vapour and condensate thereof, a pressure tank 9 containing cooling medium and connected in continuous circuit with the vessel 1, and, within the pressure tank 9 a tubular coil connected either to the inlet or the outlet of the vessel 1 or to a supply of the cooling medium.
