Abstract
1,137,409. Vacuum generator for autoclaves. ELECTROLUX A.B. 22 Sept., 1966 [27 Sept., 1965], No. 42332/66. Heading ASG. A device for producing a vacuum in a steam autoclave 11 at the end of a sterilizing process comprises a tank 47 surrounded by a cooling jacket 52 to which it is connected via a non- return valve 51. The tank also connects with the dosing tank 19 of the autoclave and thus, when the water level in the dosing tank is sufficiently low, with the autoclave (via conduit 33, 34, 35, 16 and 15) and the cooling jacket is conected to a water supply tank 23. At the end of a sterilizing run, valve 46 is opened and water above the level 45 in dosing tank 19 is forced into the vacuum tank 47 by steam pressure. Thereafter, air and water are forced out of the vacuum tank into the cooling jacket 53 and back to the storage tank 23. Cooling in the jacket 53 then causes cold water to be drawn from tank 23 but this is prevented from reaching the vacuum tank by the non-return valve 51. This cools the vacuum tank, which by now is filled with steam, thus producing a vacuum both in this tank and in the autoclave. Thereafter, air may be admitted to the autoclave via the filter 41, valves 42 and 43 and conduit 40.
