Abstract
A glass enamel frit for use in a resistor composition consists essentially of, in percentages by weight, 24-34% ZnO, 18-25% SiO2, 22-30% B2O3, 3-7% AP2O3, 4-10% Na2O, 4-6% ZrO2, 0-4% CuO, 0-4% P2O5, less than 1% each and less than 2% total amount of PbO, Sb2O3, TiO2, NiO and Fe2O3 and less than 0.1% of other alkali metal oxides. A resistor composition is prepared by mixing 35-85% of the above frit with 65-15% of a mixture of finely-divided silver and palladium the weight ratio Pd : Ag being between 3 : 2 and 2 : 3. This resistor composition may then be made into a paste or liquid by the addition of 15-60% of an inert vehicle, e.g. water, methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl or higher alcohols, the corresponding esters, terpenes and liquid resins. An electrical resistor having a ceramic base and the above resistor composition has been found to have a low temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) and a low drift.
