982,459. Insulators. COMPAGNIE GENEKALE D'ELECTRO-CERAMIQUE. March 6, 1963 [March 26, 1962], No. 8953/63. Heading H2C. A device for protecting insulators against electric arcs comprises arcing horns with C- shaped face ends 12 and 13 connected to a bracket 3 from which insulators 4 are suspended or secured. When flashover occurs the points at which the upper and lower arcs impinge upon the protective horns situated between the two insulators tend to move towards one another and to merge as a result of electromagnetic action into a single arc which is easier to blow out. In order not to reduce the surface leakage distance, the horns do not project over the ceramic of the insulating stems. As described, the arrangement is used for suspending a line 5 from a pylon 6 and four horns are used at each junction.
