A hot-plate 1, forming the top of an electric cooking stove, is formed with an integral depression 2 above which is disposed a sheathed heating element 7, forming a hot-plate, and mounted on a vertical cylindrical pivot member 5 so that it can be swung sidewardly away from its working position for cleaning purposes. As shown, a reflector 8 is fitted into the depression 2 and a supporting spider 9 is fixed to the heating element, which is movable upwardly to permit spider 9 to clear the raised edge of depression 2 as the heating element is swung sidewardly.
