Abstract

981,490. Rotary compressors. WORTHINGTON CORPORATION. April 27, 1962 [Sept. 27, 1961], No. 16133/62. Heading F1F. ' A two-stage rotary compressor 20, 30 (Fig. 1) for a refrigerating system is mounted in a hermetically sealed housing 2 and driven by an electric motor in a housing 3. Each stage of the compressor comprises a rotor 40, 40<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 2) with outwardly sliding vanes and a casing having two inlets and two outlets, the outlets 23, 26 of the first stage being axially aligned with the inlets 35, 33 of the second stage. The compressor is lubricated by oil forced through passages 70, 71, 72, 74, 73 to nozzles 76 in the casing inner walls (see also Fig. 6). The profile of the inner wall of the casing (Fig. 11) which is symmetrical about the major and minor axes comprises, on each side of the major axis, an arc 81 centred on the rotor axis and subtending between 10 degrees and 20 degrees at the axis, bounded by arcs 82 of radius R T , subtending between 12 degrees and 30 degrees at the rotor axis. The profile is completed by circular or elliptical arcs 83.
