981,009. Hypodermic syringes. B. D. LABORATORIES Inc. Dec. 9, 1963, No. 48536/63 Heading A5R. A hypodermic needle assembly comprises metal needle 10, the butt end of which is inserted in thermoplastic mounting 12 comprising chuck 16 for embracing the needle and skirt 19. The annular space between the chuck 16 and skirt 19 is filled with, e.g. epoxy resin 21. The outer surface of the chuck or the inner surface of the skirt is formed with a recess so that the epoxy resin engages in the recess and supports the needle against axial movement. Chuck 16 has flange 17 for facilitating entry of needle 10. The mount 12 may be formed separately or integrally with graduated syringe barrel 14. The barrel has flange 24 and collar 25 at the open end thereof into which is inserted piston 27 carried by piston-rod 28 of cruciform cross-section. The shape of piston 27 is complementary to the end of barrel 14 at the mount end so that, on applying pressure to flange 30, the piston expels all the contents from the barrel 14. A cap 32, which may have a helical thread 33 and reinforcing ribs, may cover the needle when not in use.
