Abstract

The invention comprises monoesters of a polyethylene glycol of molecular weight about 200-1000 with an unsaturated fatty acid-maleic anhydride adduct, the acid having at least about 10 carbon atoms, and their production by reacting substantially equimolar proportions of the adduct and the glycol at not more than about 120 DEG C. for about 20 minutes. Specified acids are oleic, linoleic, clupanodonic, undecylenic, erucic, dehydrated ricinoleic, eleostearic, licanic, arachidonic, and linseed oil, soya oil, dehydrated castor oil and tall oil fatty acids, and mixtures thereof.
