Abstract
The invention comprises polyethylene glycol esters of diphenyl-4-carboxylic acids, diphenyl ether-4-carboxylic acids and diphenyl methane-4-carboxylic acids, in which the phenyl group remote from the ester group may be substituted by chlorine, obtainable by esterifying the acids with polyglycols of formula RO.(CH2CH2O)n CH2CH2OH, where R is H or a hydrocarbon radical of up to 6 C atoms and n is 4-50. In an example a polyethylene glycol of average molecular weight 7450 esterifies diphenyl-4-carboxylic acid to give a product of average molecular weight about 630; 41-chlorodiphenyl ether 4-carboxylic acid, diphenyl methane-4-carboxylic acid, and polyglycol monoalkylethers are also specified.ALSO:The invention comprises polyethylene glycol esters of diphenyl-4-carboxylic acids, diphenyl-ether-4-carboxylic acids and diphenylmethane-4-carboxylic acids, in which the phenyl group remote from the ester group may be substituted by chlorine. The products are obtained by esterifying the acids with polyglycols of formula RO.(CH2CH2O)nCH2CH2OH where R is H or a hydrocarbon group having at most 6 carbon atoms and n is 4-50. The example describes the esterification of diphenyl-4-carboxylic acid with polyethylene glycol of average molecular weight 450. 41-Chlorodiphenyl ether-4-carboxylic acid, and diphenylmethane-4-carboxylic acid are also specified for esterification with polyethylene glycols or monoalkylethers thereof.
