A vehicle guidance system in which signals from a guiding source are sensed and developed as mark-space signals whose mark/space ratio is dependent on deviation, the mark-space signals correcting the course of the vehicle. As shown, a route guide conductor 1 is fed with modulated A.C. so that when the vehicle is on course, the voltages developed in sensing coils 2, 3 are equal as in Figs. 2a, 2b; these voltages are rectified to produce the signals of Figs. 2c, 2d, which are shaped to produce saw-tooth pulses Figs. 2e, 2f. When the vehicle is off course, the rectified voltages are so shown in Figs. 2g, 2h, and the shaped signals as in Figs. 2i, 2j; the portion above the datum lever 29 is squared as in Fig. 21, to produce a mark-space signal whose markspace ratio depends on the deviation of the vehicle, and this is applied to actuate a double acting relay 6 Fig. 1 to operate the steering motor 9 during the mark periods only to bring the vehicle back on course.
