Abstract

979,820. Hydraulic apparatus. KAMPERMASCHINENBAU G.m.b.H. Aug. 14, 1962 [Aug. 14, 1961], No. 31197/62. Heading F1P A control device for pump-fed hydraulic drives comprises selector valves 1, 2 for controlling the drives, a pressure relief valve 10, 16 and an unloading device 5 between a pump conduit P and an outlet pipe 4, the unloading device having a piston which is subjected on one side, to pump pressure and, on the other side, to the pressure downstream of an axial bore 6 and the force of a spring 8, the outlet pipe 9 being open when the plungers of the selector valves 1, 2 are in their neutral position so that the device 5 unloads the pump to a tank T and being closed upon displacement of the plungers so that the unloading device disconnects the tank and increases the pressure supplied by the pump. The control device acts to limit shock waves in the system when the selector valves are moved from their neutral positions to actuate the hydraulic drives. In the neutral position of the selector valves, the outlet pipe is unblocked and pressure from the pump conduit P acts on the piston 5, the flow of fluid through the bore 6 causing a lower pressure to act on the other side of the piston and in the outlet pipe 9. The pressure acting across the piston moves the piston upwardly against the spring 8 to connect the pump conduit to a tank T. When one of the plungers is moved from its neutral position, the outlet pipe 9 is blocked and the equalising of the pressure across the piston permits the spring to move the piston towards its seating to disconnect the pump conduit from the tank and increase the pressure from the pump. The pressure increase follows an exponential curve and is determined by surfaces 13 on the part of the piston which engages the seating, and shocks are prevented by pressure-relief valve 10, 16 opening before the piston closes the passage to the tank.
