Abstract
945,328. Fluid-pressure servomotor control systems. DOWTY HYDRAULIC UNITS Ltd. April 19, 1962 [ April 20, 1961], No. 14333/61. Heading G3P. A servo-operated valve for controlling the relief of pressure between two conduits, irrespective of which is the high pressure conduit, comprises a valve member 7 having a closure surface 11 co-operating with a seat 9. The valve member is formed on a stepped piston slidable in bores 8, 12 the cross-sectional area of the bore 8 being preferably twice that of the bore 12. Pressure chambers 14, 16 are provided on either side of the seat whereby the fluid pressure in these chambers acts on two surfaces of the valve member in the opening direction. Passages 19, 23, having restriction 21, 24 lead from the chambers past non-return valves 22, 25 to a control pressure chamber 18 which may be vented by a control valve 29. Passages 41, 43 also lead from the pressure chambers to chambers 39, 42 whereby fluid pressure acts on pistons 38, 37 to open the control valve 29. The valve is shown controlling the relief of pressure between conduits 2, 3 of an hydraulic transmission. Assuming that the conduit 3 is the high pressure conduit, fluid in chamber 14 passes through the passage 19 and valve 22 to the control chamber 18 and acts to hold valve 25 closed. This fluid pressure also acts in chamber 39 on piston 38. When the pressure reaches a predetermined value, the valve 29 is opened to vent chamber 18 and the pressure in chamber 14 opens the valve 7 to relieve pressure in the conduit 3. If conduit 2 is the high pressure conduit, the valve is opened in a similar manner by the pressure acting on piston 37.
