979,671. Yarn-feeding. K. LIEBRANDT. Oct. 11, 1961 [Nov. 4, 1960J, No. 36416/61. Heading D1C. Yarn from bobbins 1 is supplied to the needles of a knitting machine at substantially uniform tension by depressing the yarn 2 between fixed guide members 3, 4 to form storage loops, the yarn being clamped by brakes 5, positioned between the needles and the loops, when the needles are inactive so that increased tension during the loop-forming is not passed to the needles. The loops are formed by a grid-like frame 6 reciprocated by means of an eccentric 27 driven from the main machine drive and synchronized so that downward movement of the frame to form a loop takes place when the needles are inactive. The brakes 5 (see Fig. 3) comprise adjustable eyelets 11-14 for varying the yarn tension, a feed roller 15 around which the yarn is lapped at least once, and a double-armed spring 17, 18 which can frictionally engage a braking disc 16 to stop the feed roller when backward tension is applied to the yarn 2 by the loop-forming frame 6. When the needles are moving, the tension of the thread upon exit eyelet 23, mounted on the end of an arm 22, lifts the spring arm 17 from the disc 16. Braking pressure is adjustable by nut 21 working on screw 20.
