Abstract
979,589. Mass spectrometers. ATLASWERKE A.G. June 5, 1961 [June 3, 1960], No. 20207/61. Heading H1D. A 180 degrees type magnetic mass spectrometer with the ion entry gap E located on the field boundary X has an injection angle e where 0 < # < 54 degrees, 44 minutes in order to reduce second-order aperture errors. Preferably the angle #=35 degrees, 16 minutes, and the angle of inclination γ of the image line g equals 19 degrees, 28 minutes. In another example #=10 degrees and γ=9 degrees, 24 minutes, but graphs showing ranges of values for these angles are given. The entry gap E may be arranged a short distance from the field edge. The target gap A together with the target b and the amplifier valve c is moved along the image line g to explore the mass spectrum.
