Abstract

[Also in Division G3] A variable resistance fluid flow path is obtained by varying the position of inlet or outlet along an elongated flow passage. Inlet 24 of body member 1 communicates with port 37 of outlet 38 via a series of longitudinally extending passages 40-49 circumferentially spaced around rotatable barrel-member 29 and interconnected by channels 51, 52 and 53 in the face 34 and channels 54, 55 and 56 in the face 35 of barrel member 29. The inlet 24 feeds, via a port 68, to a central recess 30, of cap member 31, communicating with annular channel 33 along the length of which the outlet to enlarged port 50 of the initial longitudinal barrel passage 40 is variable as a fine means of flow control, upon rotation of the cap 31 with respect to barrel member 29. Rotation of barrel member 29 bearing cap 31, with respect to body member 1, effects coarse control by varying the total length of the longitudinal passages 42-49 connected in line to the port 37 of outlet 38.
