Abstract

The distribution network for a fluid flowing through a nuclear reactor, for instance the moderator, comprises elastic branches to allow for thermal expansion. In Fig. 3 moderator flows from an inlet manifold 1 through branches 2 to outlets 3 leading to moderator chambers (not shown). The branches 2 are formed by fairly thin tubes which are curved so as not to be absolutely rigid in the plane of the figure. In another arrangement, Fig. 4 (not shown), one of the branches 2 is of helical form. The moderator may flow from inlets at the bottom to outlets at the top of the moderator chambers. Fig. 1 (not shown), or the chambers may be of reentrant form, (Fig. 2 not shown), with the inlets and outlets at the bottom of each chamber. Specification 963,618 is referred to.
