The moderator of a nuclear reactor is arranged to flow inside tubes which are closed at one end. In the drawing the moderator flows from a distributing member 3 to inlet tubes 2, tubes 1, and collecting member 4. The tubes 1 may be lined with thermal insulation, and the spaces in the tubes above the moderator level may be used to house measuring instruments or the like.
