Abstract

979,009. Electric motors. HEVENT DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. Sept. 27, 1963 [Oct. 18, 1962; Oct. 22, 1962], Nos. 39378/62 and 39857/62. Heading H2A. In a glandless electric motor-driven pump the motor rotor is electrically insulated from its supporting shaft in order to reduce eddy currents in this shaft. Stationary shaft S is secured by knurled portion 7 in moulded plastics motor housing, which completely encloses stator 2, and carries a rotating assembly comprising an insulating tubular sleeve B which is integral with impeller I and supports rotor R and preferably produced in a plastics moulding process. In a modification a sleeve of bearing material, e.g. phosphor bronze, is placed over the shaft and the rotor mounted on an interposed sleeve of insulating material, Fig. 2 (not shown). In a further modification the rotor is secured on a sleeve of insulating material on a rotating shaft. The shaft, which may be hollow, is of stainless steel but could be made of insulating material. A synthetic resinous material, e.g. a formaldehyde polymer, may be used in the plastics moulding processes. In the second Provisional Specification it is stated that the correct rotation of the pump can be ascertained by holding a pivotable magnetic needle adjacent the motor end of the housing.
