A dust mask, of the type comprising a plate-like supporting member 1 associated with a layer or pad 6 of a filtering medium, such as textile gauze, has its head strap 7 made adjustable by being passed through three parallel slots 8, 9, 10 at at least one side of the plate 1. Preferably, a set of three slots is formed at each side of the plate 1 and the strap 7 is of elastic webbing. The strap is passed from the rear to the front of the slot 8, back through slot 10, forward through slot 9 and again back through slot 8, so providing an effective jamming action.
