[Also in Division B8] In a hydraulic jack, Fig. 2, for hauling a chain 20 or cable, the hollow piston rod 21 carries a chain or cable gripper 25 having a movable jaw 27 which is actuated through a roller 28 and inclined track 29 in the pulling direction. The jaw 27 may have one or more teeth engaging the chain links. A snubbing device 22, 24 holds the chain during return strokes of the jack.
