Abstract

978,461. Pipe couplings. WHEATON BRASS WORKS. Oct. 28, 1963 [Nov. 23, 1962], No. 42460/63. Heading F2G. A pipe-coupling means comprises a male member 11 having a diametrically enlarged inner end 13, a female member 12 having a body 18 to receive the enlarged end 13 of the member 11 and a detachable clamp-head 25 to secure the member 11 to the body 18, the enlarged end having forwardly and rearwardly facing conical bearing seats 14 and 16 oblique to the axis of the coupling overlaid by corresponding conical bearing seats 20 and 27 on the member 12 and an annular anti-friction band 32 of fluorocarbon resin engaged between the bearing faces of each pair of seatings. The anti-friction band is of polytetrafluoroethylene in fabric form. The coupling is sealed by an 0-ring 34 in a groove 33. Pipes P and P<SP>1</SP> are attached in alignment to the members 11 and 12 by welding or otherwise as in Fig. 1 or in other embodiments (not shown) the members may be cranked to provide a swinging angular joint.
