Abstract
In a gas discharge tube for use in spectroscopic analysis, the cathode comprises an alloy of calcium, magnesium and aluminium. The alloy preferably includes 10-15% calcium and 10-15% magnesium, and may be made by induction melting the constituent elements in a graphite crucible in a helium atmosphere at 3/4 atmospheric pressure, the materials being held molten for one minute before being poured into a split copper mould to form a cylindrical member.
