Abstract

977,288. Reciprocating motors and pumps. H. THOMA. April 29, 1963 [May 2, 1962], No. 16856/62. Addition to 895,805. Heading F1A. In an axial piston motor or pump, the revolving cylinder block is supported against tilting either by bearings 29, 30 surrounding the block, as shown, or by a bearing surrounding the block and another bearing on a drive shaft secured to the block. A valve plate 14 is located against rotation by sleeves 16 which may be resilient or have sufficient clearance to permit self-alignment of the valve plate with the cylinder block. The valve plate is biased against the block by spring-loaded balancing pistons communicating with the valve ports and outing between the casing and the valve plate. The timing may be adjusted by angularly adjusting valve plate 14 relative to the block, either by hand or automatically, sleeves 16 then being carried wholly by the block or the valve plate. The bearing surfaces of the block and valve plate are pressure lubricated. Swash-plate inclination may be fixed or adjustable by rotation of a shaft 7.
