Abstract

976,807. Aerials. MARCONI CO. Ltd. May 10, 1962 [Nov. 7, 1961], No. 39828/61. Heading H4A. A " logarithmic " aerial assembly, for receiving a wide band of frequencies or more particularly for receiving a specific number of frequencies within the band, e.g. those transmitted by the television transmitters marked as crosses a, b, c, d, comprises a feeder F fed at one end and bent into a plurality of sections A, B, C, D running in appropriate directions, each section being provided with a number of elements A 1 -A 4 &c. whose length and spacing along the section varies logarithmically. The elements may be dipoles (as shown) or folded dipoles. The " taper ratio " that is the ratio of the lengths of adjacent elements is a constant for a particular section and may be a constant for all the sections. The balanced feeder F comprises two conductors fed at the end adjacent the shortest element, " crossed over " between adjacent elements (Fig. 2, not shown), and terminated at the remote end either by a resistor or by directly connecting the ends together. As shown, the elements A 1 -A 4 and D 1 -D 4 are arranged to receive horizontally polarized waves, the elements B 1 -B 4 and C 1 -C 4 being arranged to receive vertically polarized waves. Specifications 884,889 and 965,580 are referred to.
