Abstract

874,784. Aerials. BELLING & LEE Ltd. Jan. 22, 1960, No. 2351/60. Class 40(7) A wide-band aerial system comprises at least two folded dipoles, the dipoles being of different lengths and joined by a transmission line which has a lower characteristic impedance than that of either of the dipoles at its feed point. In one embodiment two dipole pairs 1, 2 and 3, 4 are used. The spacing between the pairs of dipoles is approximately a half wave-length at the mean operating frequency and dipoles 1 and 3 are shorter than dipoles 2 and 4. Reflectors 5, 6 may be provided. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), a third folded dipole is added to each pair, the additional dipole being shorter than the dipoles 1, 3 and mounted such that the dipoles of each group are of decreasing length in the direction of maximum gain.
