Abstract

976,755. Centre weft fork motion. RUTI MACHINERY WORKS Ltd. June 13, 1961 [June 13, 1960], No. 21383/61. Heading D1E. In order that no kink shall remain in the weft where the weft fork has rested on it, the fork is moved away before the shuttle completes its pick. As shown, downward movement of a rod 17, reciprocated by a cam, raises the fork carrier 3 and, by means of a pin 5 engaging the tail 1a of the fork, tilts the fork up to clear the path of the shuttle. When the shuttle is picked, the rod 17 rises to lower the fork on to the weft 4. Continued movement of the carrier 3 about its pivot 6 swings the pivot 2 of the fork downwards and forwards, whereby the fork slides off the weft and the tail 1a passes freely under a block 10. If the weft is absent, however, the fork will have dropped at this stage and its tail 1a will encounter the block 10 to prevent further movement of the carrier 3; movement of the rod 17 is thereby stopped and a dagger, oscillated by the rod 17, is left in line with a bell crank lever which it strikes during beat-up to release a detent from a clutch operating lever, whereupon a spring disengages the clutch to stop the loom. In another construction, the fork is mounted at the top of a vertical fork carrier so as to slide horizontally off the weft; the tail of the fork is pushed by a finger operated by the rod 17 to tilt the fork; and instead of the tail co-operating with the block 10, a hook on the prongs of the fork cooperates with a hook fixed on the slay.
