976,649. Disc brakes. H. TEVES, E. A. TEVES, and M. TAUSEND, [trading as ALFRED TEVES MASCHINEN-UND ARMATURENFABRIK KOMM.-GES.]. May 16, 1962 [May 24, 1961], No. 18874/62. Heading F2E. In a spot-type disc brake a brake casing 4 can move relatively to a brake support formed by a dust plate 2 protecting a brake disc 1 from road dirt and dust, the brake casing 4 having a flat brake frame 3 with a brake actuator secured thereto displaceably or pivotally mounted on the brake support. The actuator may be in the form of a single hydraulic piston and cylinder device 12 or may be constitutd by a manually-operable lever 17. The bearing surface of the brake frame 3 is formed by ledges 8 on the dust plate 2 and anti-flutter springs 9 prevent rattle. Fig. 4 shows an alternative applying mechanism in the form of an hydraulic cylinder 24 having a partition member 25 and two opposed pistons 26 which act upon levers 31, 32 to force a push rod 34 against a friction pad 35 to force the latter into engagement with one face of the brake disc, the opposite friction pad 14 being brought into frictional engagement with the other face of the brake disc through frame member 27 and by reaction. Alternative applying means is formed by actuation of cable-operated lever ends 40. An alternative embodiment is disclosed in the Specification wherein the brake frame 3 may be pivoted about a single pivot situated adjacent the edge of the brake disc.
