Abstract
1494730 Spot-type disc brakes TWIFLEX COUPLINGS Ltd and F HARRISON 25 Nov 1974 [7 Dec 1973] 56884/73 Heading F2E A caliper, intended for use in an industrial disc brake, comprises a lever 13, Fig. 3, adapted for pivotal mounting on a disc brake housing (not shown), a shoe 22, Fig. 6, locatable on the lever 13 for movement therewith in use towards and away from one surface of a disc 16, Fig. 1, to be braked, a curved projection formed on either the shoe (as shown at 21) or the lever, such projection being engageable with a co-operating recess formed respectively in the lever (as shown at 19) or the shoe, the recess partially surrounding the projection, when in use, to locate the shoe on the lever between the lever and a disc surface, and resilient means, e.g. spring 12, Fig. 8, for retaining the shoe 22 on the lever 13 whilst permitting at least some relative sliding movement between the co-operating surfaces. The lever 13 is shown inverted in Fig. 3. As shown in Fig. 1, two levers, accommodate, in lever apertures and between them, a pneumatic actuator 15, for further separation of the upper ends for brake actuation. Each spring 12, Fig. 8, has end projections 13 engageable with ends of a brake pad 11 on the shoe and an intermediate portion 24 engageable in a groove at the back of the lever. The actuator may alternatively be hydraulic, electric or spring-actuated.
