976,355. Measuring electrically. SCHWEIZERISCHE LOKOMOTIV-UND MASCHINENFABRIK. March 15, 1962 [March 17, 1961], No. 10037/62. Heading G1N. Apparatus for measuring the torsional vibrators of a shaft comprises a double coil system 10 (Fig. 1) attached to the shaft 2, and a core 17, located between the coils 10 and attached to an insertion mass 3 freely supported on the shaft and resiliently attached to it by a spring 7, whereby vibrations of the shaft cause the core 17 to vary differentially the inductances of the coils, which are connected in a bridge circuit 25 to enable the vibrations to be displayed on a C.R.O. 27. The coils 10 are flat and annular (Fig. 2) and cast in channels in a cylindrical body 13, being held in position by an epoxy-resin. The core 17 is ring- shaped and made of a high-permeability material. In a modification (Fig. 5), the transducer comprises from coils 10 and two cores 17 connected differentially into a bridge circuit, which may be fed with D.C. to give an output signal indicative of the speed of vibration.
