Abstract

975,899. Haymaking machines. C. VAN DER LELY N.V. Jan. 24, 1961 [Feb. 4, 1960], No. 2798/61. Heading A1F. In a haymaking machine of the type having tine-bars each carrying a row of resilient tines, each tine is connected to its tine-bar through two substantially horizontal straight portions which are resiliently deformable about their own axes to enable the tine to be deflected. In Figs. 4, 5 and 7 the tine-bar 47 is of inverted L- shape, the tines 45, 46 being formed in pairs and bolted to the tine-bar at their centre-point. Between the bolt 63 and the tine-stem 45, 46, each tine has a horizontal portion 56, 61 leading into a vertically-disposed loop 55-52, 60-57 which passes vertically through a hole 50, 51 in the tine-bar and merges into the tine-stem 45, 46. In Fig. 15, each double-tine is clamped to the tine-bar 108 at its centre and then has limbs such as 115, 114, 113, which finally bend over the edge of the tine-bar to form the pendant tines (not shown). In Figs. 25, 27 each tine depends from a fixing nut 163 in the tine-bar 149 and has three intermediate horizontal portions 152, 153, 154 between the portion 155 and the tine-stem 148. In each case, the horizontal portions (i.e. 55, 56, 113, 115, 152, 153, 154) are capable of deforming torsionally when the tine encounters the crop, the holes, such as 50, 51, being of sufficient clearance to permit tine movement. As shown in Fig. 4, the upwardly extending loops are capable of acting as scrapers for the adjacent tines during rotation of the tine-bars. The tines are shown applied to a machine (Fig. 1, not shown) having a main frame in the form of a deformable parallelogram and being arranged for direct coupling to tractor hitch-links; the tine-reel is powerdriven from the tractor power take-off. Specification 975,900 is referred to.
