Abstract
975,448. Vehicle windows. AUSTER Ltd., and W. W. SMALL. March 8, 1963 [March 15, 1962], No. 9922/62. Heading E1J. In a vehicle window wherein two glazed panels 2, Fig. 3, slide in parallel planes on upper and lower pairs of horizontal guides 3, 8, the lower guides 8 are formed on a unit A detachably secured as by screws 25, to a fixed frame member 4 so that the unit A and panels 2 may be swung inwards as shown for removal of the panels from the interior of the vehicle. The lower side of the fixed frame 1 is formed by the member 4 while the other three sides are formed by soft-lined channels 3 receiving the panels 2. The lower edge of each panel carries an H-section strip 9 lined for running on the guide ribs 8. In a modification the ribs 8 are replaced by guide channels. The unit A carrying the guides 8 comprises a sloping base 7 having drainage holes and slots, Figs. 2, 4 (not shown), a lined channel 16 engaging over a lip on the frame member 4, a rib 20 (which may be gapped) resting on spaced bosses 21 which provide drainage openings to the outside of the vehicle, and a flange 12 secured to the frame 1 by screws 14, Fig. 1. The frame member 4 may be integral with a channel receiving a main window panel 6. The panels 2 may be provided with finger pieces 10 and the inner edge of each panel may carry a sealing strip which wipes over the other panel as the window is opened. A buffer stop, Fig. 2 (not shown) on one panel may co-operate with the edge of the other panel.
