Abstract

975,353. Rotary piston internal combustion engines. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. Nov. 8, 1963 [Nov. 17, 1962], No. 44209/63. Heading F1F. To lubricate the inner surface 2, Fig. 1, of the housing 1 of a trochoidal type rotary piston I.C. engine having a triangular piston 3 with radial seals 6 at its corners 5 and rotating in the direction of the arrow 4, the combustion air admission passage 7 is provided on its forward surface 8 with a bore 10 through which lubricating oil passes. The oil passes through the mouth 9 of the bore 10 and is entrained with the combustion air to pass along the surface of the passage 7 over a rounded edge 15 to be swept into the suction chamber of the engine by each radial seal 6. To spread the oil over a wide surface in the passage 7, channels radiating from the mouth 9 may be cut in the wall of the passage 7. Alternatively, the bore 10 may be replaced by a larger diameter bore 17, Fig. 3, with a pin 18 inserted therein having an axial bore 19 connected by parts 21 to an annular gap 22.
