Abstract
975,351. Disintegrating apparatus. E. D. JONES CORPORATION. Nov. 8, 1963, No. 44132/63. Heading D2A. [Also in Division B2] Apparatus for disintegrating fibrous material, comprises a tank having, main chamber and an annular chamber at one side thereof, a motor 4<SP>Á</SP> (Fig. 6a) forming the inside of the annular chamber vanes 6<SP>11</SP> on the rotor projecting into the main chamber for breaking up masses of material into small pieces and circulating the material around the main chamber and opposed attrition blades on the tank and rotor in the annular chamber whereby material may flow through an annular inlet 18<SP>11</SP> from the main chamber, between the attrition blades and thence back through an inlet 21<SP>11</SP> to the main chamber for re-cycling. The attrition blades may comprise slanted rows 12, 13 (Fig. 4) of teeth, with the top blade 9<SP>11</SP> mounted on a flange 27 extending either radially outwards from the rotor or radially inwards from the tank (Fig. 3 not shown). The inlet 18<SP>11</SP> is covered by a perforated or slotted grating. Alternatively (Fig. 7) the blades may comprise rows of radial ribs 43, 44, with the ends facing the inlet 41 being bevelled, alternate ribs being bevelled to a greater extent than the other ribs. The annular channel may be at the side of the tank (Fig. 5 not shown), in which case, in addition to outlet 3<SP>11</SP> there is an outlet in the base of the tank, while at the side opposite the annular chamber there is a re-entrant dimple to produce smooth circulation.
