975,059. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. Nov. 6, 1963 [Nov. 29, 1962], No. 43758/63. Heading B5K. Two components 1, 2 made of a plastics material are joined by a fluid-tight seal formed by injecting a flowable joining and sealing material 12 into a channel defined between ribs of one component 1 engaging within grooves of the other component 2. As shown, a multiplecell accumulator housing 1 made of polystyrene is closed by a polystyrene cover 2 having an edge groove defined by projections 3, 4 and lateral grooves defined by projections 6, 7 to correspond to cell walls 8, 9 of the housing 1. The walls 5, 8, 9 which engage the grooves of the cover 2 each have a U-shaped channel section 10, Fig. 2, forming with the groove bases closed channels into which the material 12 is injected. During this injection the flanges 15, 16 of the U-section are spread outwardly to rest tightly against the groove walls and prevent the material 12 from being extruded out of the channel. The material 12 is preferably a synthetic resin rendered flowable by heating or by a chemical solvent prior to injection so that the surfaces to be joined are softened by heat or excess solvent and subsequently harden. Alternatively, a quickly hardening synthetic resin or other adhesive may be extruded into the channel.
