Abstract

1327583 Container closures W R GRACE & CO 19 April 1971 [2 April 1970] 15734/70 Heading B8T [Also in Division B5] A container closure of unplasticized p.v.c., polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, phenolformaldehyde resin, urea formaldehyde resin or phenol-urea-formaldehyde resin has a sealing gasket of a vinyl resin formed therein by depositing a charge of the vinyl resin plastisol in the closure, and solidifying the resin by microwave heating. The vinyl resin may be polyvinyl chloride or copolymers of vinyl chloride with vinyl halides, vinyl esters, styrene, or ethylene, or polyvinyl acetate, and may contain a foaming agent. An adhesive may be used in the closure to secure the gasket, but in the case of screw threaded closures this is not necessary. In one embodiment, the closure containing the plastisol charge is used to close a container before hardening of the plastisol, which is then hardened in situ.
