Abstract

1339493 Seaming non-metallic sheet material ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 19 Jan 1971 [29 Jan 1970] 2700/71 Addition to 975059 Heading B5K An assembly comprises a pair of components 1, 4 of thermoplastic plastics material, one component 4 having a grooved surface 9 interengageable with a ribbed surface 12 on the component 1 to form a closed channel 11 for receiving a synthetic injection moulding composition 8 for forming a fluid-tight seal between the two components, the ribbed surface of the component being a channel 10 whose sides project as lip-shaped flanges 12 which, when engaged with the component 4, project into the groove 9 therein and are splayed apart by a wedge-like hump 13 extending substantially centrally of the groove and extending substantially parallel to the side walls 14 of the groove 9, and are pressed on to the inner surfaces of the walls 14 by the injection of a thermoplastic plastics sealing and welding composition. The components 1, 4 comprise a multiple cell housing and a cover therefor, respectively. The housing 1 has cells 2 each containing a plate assembly 3 and electrolyte and the cover 4 has stoppers 5 and inter-cell connectors and terminal posts (not shown). During sealing, the sealing composition, e.g. polystyrene, polypropylene or polyethylene, is injected into the channel 11 through openings 15 in the hump 13. To serve as additional fixing for the cover 4, members 16 project from the outer wall of the housing 1. The walls 14 of the cover 4 may be reinforced by ribs 17.
