Abstract
<PICT:0974943/C1/1> <PICT:0974943/C1/2> A centrifugal multi-chamber countercurrent exchanger 10 has a shaft 12 journalled for rotation in a suitable supporting structure and a drum or rotor 14 has a plurality of radially extending cavities or mixing chambers 22 and 24 in two vertical planes without communication between them. Removably positioned in each of the working mixing chambers is a novel disc column, e.g. as shown in Fig. 4, though the chambers may be sealed for idle condition, as shown in Fig. 1, with relation to the mixing chambers 24. The mixing chambers may also be filled with Raschig rings, Berl saddles, asbestos or glass wool. The heavy liquid enters the mixing chambers 22 or 24 near the inner end thereof through the heavy liquid inlet tubes 52 while the light liquid enters under pressure near the outer end through the light liquid inlet tubes 60. They travel in countercurrent and pass out through the corresponding outlet 42 and 44 via the common annuli 32 and 3. Specifications 963,166 and 974,942 are referred to.
